Manager Chris Gibson made changes again due to injuries in his side; Charlie Wills coming in between the sticks and Elliott Drewery came in for the injured Will Seymore. Soham started with a high tempo from the start, Kieran Wingfield in explosive fashion mustering a chance and then Dan Sterna went close. On seven minutes, Drewery cut in off the right and his cross cum shot was dummied by Sam Cook and the ball went straight in. The Greens didnt hold back and Jordan Alexander was fouled in the box, with the Downham defender given a straight red for his protests. Alexander dispatched the penalty with ease as Soham were in the driving seat. Wingfield went close with a dipping effort from 40 yards seeing the keeper off his line, and then found the side netting from an acute angle. Just before half time, a big up and under troubled the Downham line and Alexander crept between the keeper and defender before running the ball in for 3-0. Downham managed to frantically scramble away from three set pieces as Soham took their advantage into half time. Second half it was much of the same, Jim Orvis replaced the injured Drewery and he took his chance. Firstly after Alexander had done well to keep onside, he got to the by-line and found Orvis ghosting in to tap in for 4-0. Sterna shot wide and Cook just over before Orvis nodded in from close range. Soham could have increased their lead as firstly Norton had his header wrongfully ruled out after the linesman didnt see the ball rebound off the inside stanchion of the goal and Alexanders blast too looked to have crossed the line after hitting the underside of the bar, but neither were given and the score stayed at 5-0. Sam Sterna twice went close before the end from headed efforts but the young Greens celebrated their undefeated season and won every game at Julius Martin Lane. Gibson saluted the home support for their efforts, in return came the appreciation for the great football that the supporters had witnessed this year Its been give and take all this year. The supporters have given us their attendance and appreciation and weve supplied the entertainment for them with some excellent football. They have all given me exactly what I have asked for and I'm really proud of our league campaign as a whole. Tonight was just about maintaining our form and enjoying it and we looked unstoppable. We can enjoy these last two cup games now and then celebrate our season after then. Wills, Burr, Norton (Poulton), Sexton, S. Sterna, Drewery (Orvis), Murfitt, D.
