U18 news: The Under 18's finished pre-season, with an overview of what is to come.

In their last two friendlies of the August calendar, they were marginally defeated by stronger outfits. Firstly on Monday 22nd they succumbed to a narrow 2-1 loss at Ridgeons West side Huntingdon, in a game they largely dominated. The hosts scored against the run of play in the first half, only for Cameron Robb to equalise after fine work from Mark Foster and Chris Munday. They had plenty of opportunities to finish the tie, but as the game went on, the older opposition dominated the last quarter as Huntingdon grabbed a winner eight minutes from time. Although defeated, the young Greens felt they should have won and would learn from this U18 experience against physical sides. In the second game, Soham played men's side Shelford and Stapleford Strikers, a highly regarded Sunday side in the Cambridgeshire Leagues. After again a very good effort and some excellent play throughout the night, Soham fell behind on 15 minutes; Will Holmes in the green goal making an error for an easy Shelford tap in. Rangers equalised in the second half though, Cameron Robb slotting home, but could have won it, but Kane Munday playing in the Shelford goal for experience kept the Sunday side in it and after another mistake in the Soham defence, Shelford snatched in with ten minutes to go. Will Ellis nearly equalised with a thunderous effort but it was cleared off the line. Gibson learnt a lot from both fixtures before the opening league game, physical elements the game and experience some of the things Gibson highlighted. "We have a very young side and inexperience. We will look to push home these elements in the next 3-4 weeks to get us moving but we have a large proportion of the things we want to do in sight. It’s going to be a 'gain as you play' kind of experience for some, but that’s football and development!"

U18's v Wisbech Preview:

Wednesday's fixture against Wisbech sees the sixth consecutive season the old foes compete against one another.
From senior sides, this is still seen as a big Cambridgeshire rivalry and in recent years, Soham have come out on top.
Last year saw Soham take four points from two games, a 4-1 away victory and then a 1-1 draw at the Lane. Wisbech always have been competitive in the league and are a brilliant example of Ridgeons sides bringing youth through their system.
