U18’s Pre-Season Preparations Under Way
Manager Chris Gibson has been working with Youth Development officer Gavin Stevenson in regards to Soham Under 18’s pre-season programme.
The Under 18’s work different in their plans and preparation for their season, and will this year compete in the Thurlow Nunn Youth League Northern section, which begins the first week of September.
For the last four years now the Elite and remaining squad from the previous Under 18 year challenge for a spot in a twenty one man squad, which Gibson puts together.
Having lost a large majority of older players at the end of the season, Gibson’s new squad will be the youngest he has formed. The Elite squad will head to Denmark again after the success of last year’s visit with Gibson and coach Robin Davis looking to better their ‘knockout cup’ runners up finish. On return, Gibson will look to piece together a side and cut from around forty trialists and seniors to twenty one players to form Soham Town Rangers Under 18s.
“We have planned a pre-season around getting the best possible knowledge of our squad as we can. The objectives we have this year are increased with the fact that Steve Fallon comes with trust and opportunity in Youth football and along with promoting the players to the Reserves. We want to provide the best possible players for each level! It’s a great pressure to have, but this year is going to be the toughest of selections as the standard of the new Elite group coming through is very, very high. Gavin has really stepped it up and we will improve what we have already with that inclusion of class. It means that the seniors for this year will up there games too in training! Denmark will be the test for the Elite in a high tempo and pressured environment and then the mix of pre-season games in the second half will have us there or there about.”
“Other activities will be included this year, more than we have in previous years. We have hopefully Fit for Sport involved and then some ‘alternative’ training methods included which shall surprise the lads a far bit! Overall, we are looking forward to it all.”
