Wisbech Town u18s 0 Soham Town Rangers u18s 1 Monday 15/02/10 CJ Gibsons young Greens again took the points off their rivals, maintaining their 100% league record at Wisbech Monday night.

With an injury ravaged squad already, it was added to when skipper Steve Sexton was replaced after 15 minutes with a knee injury. Soham had started brightly and created openings with pace of Keiran Wingfield and Dan Sterna exploiting the space in the Wisbech half. Jordan Alexander came closest first with a half volley just wide and Wingfield shot across of goal. Wisbech were reduced to a few long range efforts, but Greens keeper Jamie Clark fielded well. No real clear cut opportunities fell for either team on a heavy pitch, but both Tom Taylor and Sterna should have done better when in on goal; Taylor poking wide and Sterna firing at the home keeper. As the half came to an end, Soham looked dominant and frustration was creeping in to Wisbech, Alexander capatilised on a defensive error, but his shot was kept out well. Into the second half and Soham again looked to push further up the field. Vice captain Tom Norton and Alex Burr at the heart of the Green defence swept up the long balls and controlled the back line. Wingfield set up chances for Taylor, Alexander and Sterna and Will Seymore was dominating the midfield with surging runs. In the 72nd minute came the break through. Simon Murfitt was fouled and Seymore delivered a great ball for Norton to tower in back post and plant a header inside the post. Soham attacked still, not settling for the one goal, Alexander sliced wide and Sterna again found the Keeper positioned well. The final whistle drew and the young Greens celebrated a big three points. Manager Gibson was pleased with the win, but played down any early advances on the league title. Were just happy to be playing and winning really. After all these cancelations, you kind of lose your bearings were you are. Well just approach the next game then the next. Its a big three points tonight because Wisbech are a tough side to play at any level. We played some good football on a difficult pitch and did the jobs we had to do. My back line was exceptional tonight and Will Seymore really showed his quality. Hes in some excellent form. Job done tonight, we now move onto the next game! Clark, Norton, Burr, Sexton (Davis), S. Sterna, D. Sterna, Murfitt, Seymore, Wingfield, Taylor (Nunn), Alexander Subs Not used: Smith, Phillips. Man of the Match; Will Seymore.
