The Mead made the long trip to Soham on Saturday afternoon and on a difficult pitch, saw an early 2-0 lead disappear as Soham responded to secure the win. The Mead were missing several key players through injury but the squad battled hard and early in the game Stuart Zanone had a shot saved and Baff Addae shot over. Robbie Mason had a shot saved by Rob Budd before the Mead went ahead. With 15 minutes gone, a long ball was mis-judged by Dan Bircham, the Soham keeper and Rob Carter pounced to put the Mead ahead. The Mead were awarded a free kick about 22 yards out in the 21st minute and Chris Edwards curled it around their defensive wall and past Bircham for a 2-0 Mead lead. Soham pulled one back 2 minutes later, when a corner was punched out by Rob Budd, but it fell to James McCabe and his volley found the corner of the net. Rob Carter headed a corner just over for the Mead before Soham drew level just before half time. McCabe crossed and at the back post, Robbie Mason controlled the ball and got a shot in past Rob Budd.
So it was 2-2 at half time, both teams battled hard in the 2nd half and had chances. The Mead were left frustrated by penalty claims being rejected for tackles on Carter and Stuart Zanone. Soham were getting crosses in but the Mead defence were resolute for most of the half. It was Soham who made the breakthrough with only 4 minutes remaining when Robbie Mason crossed for Luke Stanley to volley past Rob Budd. The Mead responded to going behind, with a Chris Edwards shot which Bircham saved, and then Stuart Zanone got in a shot which again Bircham got down too. The Mead also had another penalty shout when a corner was swung in and a header blocked, the Mead claiming hand ball. But it was Soham who broke away in the 93rd minute and Robbie Mason turned in a cross to complete the scoring and secure the 2-4 win for Soham.
