Soham Elite 0 v Histon Academy U16 1
Youth Development Friendly

A scrambled goal in the final minute of the match denied Soham a draw which the team performance deserved. In a tight hard fought contest Rangers' Charlie Irvine hit the underside of the Histon bar from 25 yards but the ball somehow bounced down and out, off the Stutes' 'keeper after just 11minutes. At the other end the Greens defence looked solid and Histon's best first half efforts were a shot from distance which clipped the outside of the post, although keeper Kane Munday looked to have this covered, and a far post header from a free kick just inches off target.
Soham were forced into three half time changes with Munday (rib) and the impressive Owen Edgely (shoulder) being injured and Sean Reed feeling unwell. The second half was just as tight with a high percentage of midfield play. Substitutes Dave Crowley and Andrew Smith both slotted into Rangers midfield turning in good performances, whilst keeper Chris Jones made top drawer saves on the two occasions the excellent Greens' back line was breached. At the other end Charlie Irvine's solo run and shot looked goal bound only for the Histon keeper to pull off a magnificent finger- tip save. Rangers forced a series of corners but could not create a clear opening. With the game looking likely to end goal less a Histon cross from the right was somehow scrambled over the line in the final minute. Soham pressed forward for an equaliser but it was not to be. Overall an excellent all round team effort with some really strong individual displays confirming the squad's progress.

Munday (C Jones), McGrath, Pitt, Clayton, Morgan, Russell, Edgley (Smith), Irvine, Reed (Crowley), Martin (Brown), Newman

MOTM: Charlie Russell
