Zamaretto League Division One Midlands Review ~ 15/08/09

On the opening day of the Zamretto League Division One Midlands, despite fighting back to level the scores after trailing 3-0 at home, Atherstone Town eventually went down 6-3 to Bury Town.

On-loan Andy Tidswell was the Blues` hero with a hat trick. Stourport Swifts scored three in the last seven minutes to win 4-0 at Barton Rovers. A goal in each half from Ben Foster and Ben Adlington gave Woodford United, who narrowly missed relegation last season, a 2-0 victory at play-off semi finalists Beaconsfield SYCOB, while newcomers Biggleswade Town scored three times in the first half on their way to a 3-1 home win over Aylesbury United and relegated Hitchin Town recorded a comfortable 3-0 home win against Marlow with goals from Jamie Arlick, Luke Donnelly and Mark Burke. Leighton Town scored from the spot nine minutes from the end to defeat Romulus 1-0, and Rothwell Town also recorded a 1-0 home win with a first half strike by Dominic Hallows against AFC Sudbury at Cecil Street. Bedworth United, at Soham Town Rangers, and Sutton Coldfield Town, at home to Slough Town, both gained a point from 2-2 draws after having trailed 2-0 at half time, while the games at Bromsgrove Rovers and Burnham ended goalless against Chesham United and Arlesey Town respectively. :
