Zamaretto League Division One Midlands Review ~ 03/11/09
Hitchin Town returned to top spot in the Zamaretto League Division One Midlands on Tuesday night with a 3-2 win at Romulus.
The Canaries raced into a 2-0 lead with a brace from Jeff Hammond in the 18th and 32nd minutes. Colm Tiernan pulled Roms` back into the game just begore the interval, but Jamie Arlick eventually ensured victory with Hitchin`s third from the penalty spot five minutes from time, although Tyrone Fagan did manage to pull another back for the hosts a minute later. Chesham United missed the opportunity of going second when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Bury Town, who were gifted the lead two minutes after half time when John Kyriacou beat his own keeper. But the Blues` led for barely two minutes as Lewis Laws grabbed the Generals` equaliser. Atherstone Town also lost ground when they lost 1-0 at home to Leighton Town, whose Ben Gallant scored the only goal after 32 minutes at Sheepy Road. Slough Town moved into fifth place when an own goal by Tom Fountain after 28 minutes gave them a 1-0 home win over Woodford United. The night's other three games all ended in draws. Biggleswade Town shared six goals with Sutton Coldfield Town with Dan Heron grabbing a brace for the Waders, James Freshwater netting the other, and Michael Batchelor, Jimmy Quiggan and Jamille Matt on the mark for the visitors. Marlow drew 2-2 at home to Stourport Swifts, with Jermaine Roche netting a brace for the home side Chris Mortlock and Chris Cornes scoring for Swifts, and Arlesey Town shared a goalless encounter with Bedworth United at Hitchin Road. :
