Solihull Take All Three Points as Shots Come to Town by John Clothier

The two teams have met four times before with our last home match yielding the only point we have taken from the “shots” in a goal less draw. Unusually for our visitors, they have made a quiet start to the new season with just one point from their first two games; moors unusually have done the complete opposite and were looking to make in three wins in a row.

Luke Maxwell got his first start in midfield as Darren Carter moved to left back in place of the suspended Jamie Reckord. Kwame Thomas was back on the bench following last week’s unfortunate clash.

Berkeley-Agyepong made an early run down the left wing but Liam Daly moved in quickly forcing a corner. Ryan Boot cut out a cross to rob the incoming Holman and again on six minutes brought out a terrific save to foil Wandio gathering the stinging low shot at the second attempt.
Berkeley-Agyepong was fortunate not to be booked for a deliberate dive in the Solihull Box, but Tyrone Williams almost immediately was shown yellow for an alleged-up ending of Holman. The Moors defender then put Jermaine Hylton away on the left flank but having beaten his defender his powerful shot was saved by keeper Mannion with his legs.

With 14 minutes gone it was end to end football but Moors were fortunate that Berkeley-Agyepong having made a good run through the defence saw his 18-yard effort hit the upright and away to safety. Williams shot high and wide from Jamey Osborne’s corner and Hylton was well off target again having been put through by the Solihull Midfielder.

At the mid stage of the half, Hylton was clattered as he menaced the Shots defence and Maxwell’s free kick was close but over the cross bar. Hylton was then up ended from behind but Moors did not take advantage of the free kick.

As the interval beckoned, Darren Carter’s curling free kick was headed over by Daly and Danny Wright’s effort after a slick though ball from Osborne produced a good save from Mannion. Osborne’s corner eluded both keeper and the incoming Williams whilst a glorious through ball to Adi Yussuf found the striker off side. He then tried an audacious forty yarder in added time which might well have caused problems for the Aldershot keeper had it not been wide

0 - 0 at half time was an appropriate reflection of play.

The second half continued the pace set in the first, but Moors break though was not long coming; On 50 minutes Yussuf found Hylton in the box and although his shot was foiled by Mannion, Wright was on hand to smash the ball into the top of the net to record his first league goal for the club.
Solihull might have doubled the advantage ten minutes later when Yussuf again turned provider, this time Hylton’s point blank shot resulting in an unbelievable save from the keeper.

With Thomas on for Yussuf and Murphy for Osborne the pace of the game slowed, and the visitors pressed hard for the equaliser making the ball do the work with some excellent long passing. With eight minutes of normal time left substitute Rendell found himself with the ball at his feet some five yards out bur struck the ball wide with the goal at his mercy.

Before 4 minutes of added time Dan Sweeney and Jordan Murphy played a delightful one-two yet again seeing a goal bound effort saved by Mannion, the 20 year old having been signed on loan from Hull City only last Wednesday

This was another tough game but nine points from the first three league matches saw a very happy Tim Flowers as the team left the field of play.

Moors now ready themselves for the away match at high flying ACF Fylde which takes place this coming Tuesday KO 7.45 pm (See Web Site for details of Tickets which can be bought on line)
