Sooutham 22 - 10 Evesham

A crucial win for Southam

In front of a large crowd on Southam's inaugural Farmers Day, the team responded with their best performance of 2018.

Evesham came out hard out of the blocks and the visitors only managed a penalty attempt, that hit the post, well tidied by wing forward Rich Lloyd Jones. Southam showed their intent breaking out from their own 22 through wing Sam Bench and fly half Tom Grimes. After 20 minutes Southam got on the board first with a penalty on the 22 from captain Will Grindal for over the top, Southam continued scoring 10 minutes later with a break from Bench into the Evesham 22, the supporting forwards drove on and sucked in the Evesham defence and when the ball was spread Grimes found a big hole and fed centre John Lowden for the try under the posts, converted by Grindal. As the half close Evesham drove up the centre to the Southam 22 and gained a penalty for kicking through at the ruck.
HT 10 - 3

Southam got started with some good pressure and 5 minutes in improved the score with a well worked try, wing forward Elliot Cook drove on and Lowden took ball further weaving through the defence into the Evesham 22, Evesham made mistakes and after 3 penalties, Southam from a 5m lineout, put all in and drove over with Lowden taking the honours. Evesham were not giving up and Southam put in a good defensive shift to keep them out. After 25 minutes a Lowden chipped to the wing. wing Joe Tresenden gave chase and trapped the Evesham wing and bundled him into touch. Southam went through the phases and penetrated with a drive from prop Matt Catterall, the ball was recycled and a miss pass to Bench, still left him some work, but he took the ball at speed and drove through the 2 defenders for the try, converted by Grindal. As the half finished Evesham caught Southam napping with a fast lineout for their wing to get over for a conciliatory converted try.
FT 22 - 10

This was a crucial win for Southam as they are in the end of season relegation dogfight with Nuneaton Old Edwardians , Silhillians & Berkswell and Balsall and with 2 out of those 3 winning this keeps Southam well in the race with 3 games to go. Sills away and Kenilworth and Barkers at home.

A great team effort with a lot of standout performances, with over half the team in the running for MOTM.
