Southam RUFC
Sat 11 Nov 14:15 - Cup Kickoff 14:15

Old Sillhillians 20 - 17 Southam 2’s - Warwickshire 2's Cup - 2nd Round

Tolley shines, but the 2's fall at the last

Southam has two lads making their debuts Segs, Simon Wright & Josh Evans. Southam found themselves on the wrong side of the referee through penalties at the break down. This put Southam under pressure and Sills always in the Southam half. Sills had some big runners, who Southam managed to keep at bay, but with a lack of discipline and pressure Sill's were 15 -0 up at half time.

Southam rallied each other at half time, determined not to let the game pass them by. With some individual skill Josh Tolley chipped and chased his kick scoring under the posts and converting. Southam has their tails up and with some monstrous ball carrying from Flo Neale and Rob Lees Southam got themselves on the front foot. Southam got some pressure on the scrums pushing Sills backs on their own ball, which they had not managed in the 1st half. New player this season and rock in the 2nd row, Barney Galiffe stealing Sills lineout ball and securing the Southam line at the front. Southam had Sills hammering on their try line for multiple of phases, but eventually the Southam forwards counter rucked and managed to win the Ball. Josh Tolley ran up the short side side stepping the winger to run in a 80 meter try.

He was unable to make the vital conversation, leaving the score at 15 - 12. Sill's discipline let them down and from the penalty, captain Phil Nichols opting for territory and the line out. Colt James Rawbone took control of the line out, the ball went sailing out to the backs, with debut-ton Josh Evans giving a miss pass to Simon Wright to score in the corner, bringing the score to 15 - 17 and seeing Southam in front for the first time. As the game got very tense as it approached the whistle and the last Southam's discipline let them down and with a quick tap penalty Sill's scored in the corner, taking it to 20 - 17. During the last minutes of the game Southam found themselves 10 metres out from the Sill's try line, but were unable to capitalise on opportunities. A last effort from the Southam backs, but with a forward pass the game ended.
FT 20 - 17.

The Southam lads were obviously gutted to of made such a great come back and loose the game. They vowed they would learn from what happened and won’t happen again.

MOTM was Josh Tolley for his wonderfully individual tries.
