Southam 2s 10 - 15 Lutterworth 2s

Southam 2s have had a fantastic season under captain Phil Nichols and they so nearly got some silverware to cap it off.

Lutterworth 1sts play in Midlands 1, but this did not stop Southam and they had the best of the first half, early on they made a couple of forays deep into the Lutterworth 22 and defended the line on 5m scrum against a big lutterworth pack. 14 minutes in fly half Josh Tolley just came up short on penalty from the halfway line and 5 minutes later Southam got down into the Lutterworth 22 with a penalty kick, Southam pressured to stay in the 22 and eventually on a penalty, Tolley grubbed through and wing Ryan Stephens followed on and dotted down by the posts.
As the half closed wing Dylan Robinson, took the ball on the 22 and nearly stepped all the way to the line.
HT 5 - 0

Southam defended well across team, knocking the big Lutterworth units back and Lutterworth lost discipline with several yellow cards. From a penalty Tolley kicked for a lineout Southam won, recycled and No8 Flo Neale tidied and drove into the Lutterworth backs, the ball was recycled and Tolley put in a precision kick to the corner, the ball stood up and hooker Sam Duckett won the arm wrestle to get down for the try. Lutterworth started emptying their bench, bringing even bigger guys on and started to play route one driving rugby, after 27 minutes they worked their way down into the Southam 22 and drove over from a 5m scrum. A few minutes later Tolley missed touch from a penalty that would have put Southam on the Lutterworth 22 and Lutterworth drove again, back down into the Southam 22 and their big No8 was held up over the line, Southam held the scrum, but Lutterworth drove again and the No8 crashed over for a converted try. Lutterworth ended the game with speculative drop goal.
FT 10 - 15

This was an outstanding performance for Southam, who were outweighed right across the field and every Southam player put in a shift stopping Lutterworth getting any go forward. Fair play to inspirational captain Phil Nichols, he gave a the whole bench a game and the 2's did the club proud.
