Club Development
This network will provide support to all players and coaches used within the senior set up of Southampton Saints G & L F.C within training and the match day structure.
To support the continued progress of Southampton Saints G & L F.C senior teams, as well as the long term player development of our players as they progress through the teams, it is vital support is provided to the players ensuring we reach our goal of producing better prepared and technically more accomplished all round players.
The Sports Science Support network will provide help and advice to all senior player’s and coaches throughout their development ranging across a number of scientific disciplines.
All of the disciplines are fully focused on the long term development of players, and supporting all players’ development during team training, match days as well as during personal development and training. Emphasis is placed on supporting player’s development helping them to become high quality all round players, physically, technically, tactically, psychologically and socially.
Providing support for coaching staff involved within the senior set up is key to ensure the success of both senior teams continues, along with coaches working together towards the same goal of producing better prepared and technically more accomplished all round players for our respected teams.
Football is a sport that continues to develop very quickly with an increased emphasis on the use of the latest research and applied knowledge of how to develop players is crucial to the continued progress of Southampton Saints G & L F.C. Because of this the following scientific disciplines will be components of our Sport Science Support Network:
Player and Team Performance Analysis
Performance analysis utilises video technology and notational systems to assess performance of individual players, units of players and overall team’s performance. This analysis allows factors such as tactics, technique, movement and work-rate within training or competition can be assessed, helping with the diagnosis of individual and team improvements to help with reflecting on previous performances and preparing for future performances, allowing coaches to manipulate training and tactics to maximize the chance of success.
Performance analysis uses video recordings of matches and training, as well as notational analysis on individual and team performance to analyses certain aspects of a game or training.
Video analysis and notational analysis will be performed on matches to identify strengths and weaknesses of teams, to ensure teams are continuing to work towards improving their weaknesses while maintaining their strengths agt the appropriate level.
Both video analysis and notational analysis will be performed on coaching sessions to ensure the sessions are not constantly stop start allowing players more playing time and more opportunity for improvement, to identify players improvement and understanding of the session topic/ area, as well as to identify strengths and weaknesses of the team in certain areas for future session topics etc.

Player Fitness and Conditioning
Player and team’s conditioning and fitness levels are a vital component within football which can make the world of difference within a match situation, helping players to perform to the best of their ability for the entire length of the game as well as giving players and teams an advantage in the later stages of a match.
Fitness and conditioning primarily has two main focuses:
• Performance Enhancement - by developing muscle strength, strength endurance, power (speed and agility) and sports specific (functional) movements.
• Injury Prevention - through postural training, stability, core strengthening and movement (sports related) based assessment.
Another important component of the fitness and conditioning involves working with the physiotherapist on the rehabilitation of players returning from injury, helping players return to full fitness taking them through the numerous stages of rehabilitation, ensuring they are working at the correct level for the stage they are at helping the to return at the correct time for optimum performance.
Fitness levels of all players will be monitored using heart rate monitors at all training sessions to ensure players are working at the correct levels for optimum fitness and performance.

Injury Prevention, Identification and Rehabilitation
Physiotherapists identify and maximise movement potential through health promotion, preventive healthcare, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. Physiotherapists not only carry out their treatments to players for injuries, but also play an extended role in health promotion, raising the profile of health and lifestyle choices, and educating patients on ways to prevent and identify injuries at the earliest point ensuring injuries are prevented from occurring and reoccurring.

Nutrition advice for Players
As players it is vital that players take care of their bodies by filling them with the correct foods. Food gives players energy they need to train and play, without it the will not be able to train to the best of their abilities. It is very important that players get into good habits from a young age so it becomes second nature as players progress into the through the various teams and levels of football. Nutrition advice ensures that player’s are eating the right nutrients at the right time, enabling you to train harder and recover quicker. Nutritionists assist payers in attaining their physical goals by compiling meal plans, health options, quantities, calorie levels, recommend meal times, and much more to ensure players are performing to the best of their ability during training and matches.
