Winchester 1 Saints 0
In the title decider of the Winchester u10s league, this was always going to be much more exciting than the Manchester derby!
Saints needed one point to win the title, and knew that the stodgy wet pitch wouldn't suit our passing game. Emily Gook was added to the squad to add a defensive midfield option.
The game started end-to-end, which was always going to be the way the game continued. Chances from Simge Rosz and Kia Anteney narrowly missed the goal. Lisa Gilham was working hard up the wings to add pace and skill to the midfield and passed the ball to her team mates superbly. Kaytlin, Sophie and Emily held it tightly together at the back, preventing Winchester from having too many chances. Annie Bulkeley, having just returned from Australia, really was star of the half, making a save by diving full stretch from one side of the goal to tip it round the post with her finger tips. Even Joe Hart would have been proud of that one!! Half time saw both teams going in at 0-0.
Second half we came out strong and looked a continued threat going forward. With pacy Jennifer King putting constant pressure on the back two, Winchester used their strength to their advantage and worked Annie again, who was making evn more classy saves. eventually their hard work paid off and Winchester went 1-0 up. Despite our best efforts, we couldnt put the ball in the net and game finished 1-0 to Winchester.
Annie Bulkeley won the managers player of the match and oppositions player of the match. We are soluck to have such a talented goal keeper in our squad as not many teams have an asse as good as this. Her goal stopping is quality and her kicking is improving every angle week. Well done Annie!!!
Although winning the league would have been amazing, to come runners up in our first season together in a very very strong league is phenomenal. Every single girl in the squad should be very proud of themselves as they have done so well and really deserve their achievements. We are also in the cup final so we have 3 weeks to prepare ourselves for that.
