Saints Sting Wasps to Win Cup Final
Saints U12's stung Warsash Wasps Black scoring 5 goals without reply to secure the Winchester & District Girls F L Cup to add to their League Title.
Saints started the game with the familiar line up of Chloe Donaldson in goal, Alisha Buckingham, captain Emily Herding and Rachael Harman making up the backline, Lauren Stone holding the midfield and Leah Brown and Georgia-Rose Mears the striking force.
Having beaten their opponents on both there previous league games Saints confidence soon began to show with Leah Brown scoring Saints first within 5 minutes of the start.
Saints continued to press and the ever dangerous Mears was soon on the score sheet again with a neat finish to put Saints 2 up. Warsash then came into the game in the middle of the first half but were kept at bay by some resolute defending by the Saints. As the half continued Saints were not to be denied futher sucess with Mears completing her brace and Brown with a powerful drive just before half time had the Wasps keeper well beaten to record her second to send Saints in 4 up at the break.
Manager Barry Fry then changed the midfield early in the second half bringing on the ever improving Abbie Kill, soon after with Saints dominating Chloe Garrity came on in defence, followed by Lucia Shiner up front who was unlucky not to score with a header from a corner swung in by Brown. Making another change in formation and this time pushing left back Buckingham up into left midfield paid dividends when her low shot took the keeper by surprise and squeezed in underneath her.
Although Saints did not add any futher to their tally it was a convincing display which ended with central defender and captain Emily Herding putting in a great shift, being the only Saints player not be substituted proudly lifting the Cup for her team. The result means the Saints girls have completed the double in style having secured the league title a few weeks ago with 3 games to spare and with a goal difference of 106, a great season.
Congratulations must go to Saints U11's and manager Krystal White for winning their Cup Final and the U10's and manager Chrissy Murray after a nail biting penalty shoot out also winning theirs to give Saints a clean sweep in all the finals the Saints were involved in .
