Courtney is crowned Skittles Champ! Close Nigel, but no cigar.

‘Fun Raising’ Skittles Evening –Friday 27th Jan 2012

The Ship Inn at Redbridge played host to of our proud club, Southampton Saints G&LFC. An open invitation was issued to players (all ages), parents, and officers of the club and followers of the club to join together. Lucky ones, both present and absent were also to go on and win prizes in the raffle event that was drawn during the evening.

After a couple of drinks (and Brian and Maxine turning the radiators on!) there was a short warm up. Later a few of the players hurled their initial attempts down the alley and several realised it might not be too wise to sit so close and chose differing positions of safety. Others used this as an excuse to sit closer to the bar!

The match consisted of three rounds to decide the winner. Such was the competition going in to the last round that any number of players could emerge victorious (subject to ignoring the barrage of abuse led by Joint Club President Barry Fry, Publicity Officer Brian Eley and Chair Mike Castle!). Ultimately class shone through though and we needed a play off to separate Courtney Trodd (U14 GK) and Nigel Stone (Proud Parent of Leah –U12 Player) before a champion could be named. Being a fierce competitor that Courtney is, there was always only going to be one winner. The writer assures all our readers that barracking of a wicked grown up playing a child played no part in the result at all! Both were presented with prizes (pictured) to mark this inaugural event. Nigel there is no shame in being thrashed by a fourteen your old. Your children are still proud that you made runner up –Yeah right!

Treasurer, Tracey Wheeler was on hand (with cheque book firmly locked as usual) to ensure fair play and monies properly collected! Peter and Adam were better managers than players – least said here the better.

Special thanks to Jan and Barry Fry for organising the event, and Julie Whyte and Jan for doing such a great job with fund raising –including the raffle.

On behalf of the club Mike Castle would like to thank all those that attended and for the generous donations used as raffle prizes. Mike added the evening was great fun and hoped to see more players and others attend future events. All funds raised will go in supporting Southampton Saints Girls and Ladies football Club move forward.

Anyone has ideas for future fun events please speak with Jan or Julie.
