The Spartans u14s looked to keep a firm grip on ambitions for a clean sweep!

The Spartans u14s looked at keeping a firm grip on ambitions for clean sweep as the N&D Scorpions u14s visited the capital..

The Scorpions looked to make amends for the last defeat dished up by the Spartans in their previous encounter, and certainly this was the case as they ran red hot for a large portion of the first half. The Spartans full of spirit & confidence, and unbeaten so far in 2014 were visiting new territory as the Scorpions posted two quick early tries which left them shell shocked and pondering their defensive effort. After a wake up call, and the realization of what was at stake the Spartans u14s sprung into action with a fight back.

Towards the back end of the first period the Spartans pilled on the pressure to test the Scorpions defence and managed to post a number of tries.

The second period saw the Spartans tighten up their defence pattern which limited any opportunities the Scorpions were creating. As the Spartans moved in to the last quarter it was clear they had expelled any complacency and looked to close out the game.

Both teams continued to test each other right up until the whistle being blown for fulltime.

The Spartans managed to hold on, and hold the Scorpions to an 18-18 draw and may be reflecting that they let this one reluctantly get away from them.

As the Spartans march on in search of 2014 glory we can be sure the Scorpions will be out to avenge their loss earlier in the season and to build on their 18 all draw...

Well done to the Scorpions for hunting for the win throughout the full 50 minutes, and well done to the Spartans for halting the rot and holding them to a draw..

As the season reaches it climax at this age grade it would appear the team that can show a more structured game may have the upper hand. As defences become more aware of other teams threats, having a bit more to offer in their box of tricks may well be the difference come finals day..

Watch this space!!
