Young cricketers in South Devon have benefitted from the pedal power of two local firms who got together for a fundraising marathon cycle ride last weekend in conjunction with the Devon Youth Cricket Foundation.
Solicitors Wollen Michelmore, which sponsor South Devon Cricket Club in Newton Abbot, and TNW Financial Services, which sponsor Shaldon Optimists, teamed up with members of both clubs and cycled from Ilfracombe to Plymouth.
Six riders covered an exhausting 65 miles on Saturday, and the remaining 35 was completed by nine riders the following day. Together they hope to have raised over £1,500.
Tim Woolnough, Managing Director of TNW Financial Services commented: “Both firms have a keen interest in supporting our local cricket teams and in particular helping to promote the development of our youth sides. The money we’ve raised will go towards new practice nets and equipment for each cricket club as part of their strategy for bringing on younger players.”
Clive Meredith, Wollen Michelmore’s Practice Manager, said: “We had riders of all ages and abilities but we all started together and finished together. We were fortunate to have a number of local firms help us with sponsorship for the logistics of food and safety clothing so a huge thank you needs to go to Firewatch, Shout for an Electrician, Exeter Window Store and ITS Carter. Without their support we would have struggled to organise the event.”
