Report by Michelle Arnold

Southend and Benfleet’s four junior teams travelled away on Sunday to Wapping for another hockey tournament on a wet day, only overshadowed by the Shard. They each played matches against four teams that they had not come up against before. All of our teams played exceptionally well .

Both the girls sides were undefeated in all of their games. The u10s girls scored 5 goals, (all scored by Neve Heathcote) and only conceded one, despite playing without a keeper. The girls defence made up of Sophia Dabbs who was amazing yet again, and Erin Carson who has clearly found her position as right back and earned player of the match for the girls, kept most of the oppositions balls out of the D. The u12 girls were also unbeaten, and were lucky to have new keeper Emily in goal for them. Elise Bryant scored 2 of the goals and was awarded player of the match for her outstanding performance. They scored 5 goals during their matches.

The boys also did exceptionally well with the u 10 boys playing without a keeper. Much of the play was dominated by Zak Harwood-White in midfield who set up a number of their goals and scored a few himself, alongside Ronnie Edwards who was amazing running up the left wing and scoring as well. Ronnie earnt player of the match for his amazing performance and constant running. They scored 8 goals between them and only conceded one, which was fantastic considering that they played without a keeper. The u12 boys did well considering that they were without many of their usual squad. A number of the u 10 boys stepped up to help and Will T did fantastically in goal on his debut. Will and Jake were player of the match.

The next tournament is in February and all of the S&B teams will head there feeling confident, having won most of their games over the last 3 months, in the hope of winning Essex Hockey mini league title.
