Southend U10's Upminster Festival Winners!
Southend U 10’s made the short and familiar trip to Upminster achieving their aim to coming away festival winners shared with a very well drilled Sevenoaks outfit, not losing a single game and scoring 15 try’s in total.
5 hard pool games and a final, praise must go to the 12 players that took part today not only in the way they played but there behaviour between games making sure they were full of running all day. Thank you
First up was Beccehamians who started brightly and caught Southend off guard which was just the wake up call the lads needed. Final score Southend 3 Beccehamians 2. A good start!
Then it was Bishop Stortford That could of gone either way, finishing as a 1 all draw,
Still on track to win the group but the urgency needs to go up a level
Next up was Wanstead who battled for the whole game, but Southend had taken on board what had been said and it was obvious in their play. Doing enough to finish 2-1 winners.
Two more games to go and all to play for and the Seasiders had found their form which was unfortunate for Medway and Stanford as they were brushed aside.
Both teams did their best to spoil our day but the boys were now in full flow playing some very controlled and organised Rugby winning both Games 4-0.
We are in the Final and faced a very good Sevenoaks side which in my opinion was the best game of the day with both sides competing at every breakdown and for every inch, looking to run the ball at every opportunity and working hard to breakdown the opposition’s defence, just what you want from a Final.
Both sides only conceding once from some very good running rugby, a credit to both sides.
Final score 1 all and it was decided to share the honours as that was the right thing to do after such a close fought contest
There were some massive performances today, and every one of the 12 players today deserves a mention as we were up against it today right from the start with a reshuffled backline and players playing in positions that were new to them. Taking everything in their stride and getting on with it. You all should be proud.
Two players that I must name are Mason Nicholls as he was on fire causing defences endless problems all day and my player of the festival Jude Simpson for Stepping up to Play Fly half which was a position new to him and vital for the team and he was never phased just took it in his stride.
A big thank you to our sideline and to Glen, Phil, and Louis Stevens, for helping to make today another good day of rugby for Southend U10’
The Winning Team!
