It is with great sadness that the club announce the passing of an old club member and player Godfrey Gilbert, he will be sadly missed by all.

Gilly was an old 1st team player back in the 60's and will be sadly missed by all, he was scrum half and teamed up with fly half Dave Pritchard for many years in the 1960's within South 1st XV and a very respected player throughout the local rugby

He grow up in the knighton area of Leicester and joined South when they played on Victoria Park in Leicester. Gilly was not the tallest of men at 5ft 2" but was extremely strong for his size and very difficult to bring down.

As a youngster he played for the county and in fact played against South in the first game at the clubs Welford Rd ground when the colts provided the opposition

The date of Gilly's Memorial Service is Weds, 14th Nov. at Harringworth Church, a village east of Uppingham, off the A47, at 12.00noon.
