A cold and windy morning took us down the road to Market Harborough. Due to sickness Riley, ZaK, Cole and Ethen couldn’t make it. This left us one man short of a full team, thankfully Market Harborough lent us a player.
The First half started out with Market Harborough finding gaps in our defence and within the first 5 minutes the home team were leading 3-0. Although South were winning the scrums, several fumbles and turn overs were letting Market Harborough control the game. At the end of the first half Market Harborough had gained another 2 tries and finished 5-0 up.
After a talking to from Rocky, South started the second half. It looked like a repeat of the first half with Harborough scoring in the first minute but then Joe intercepted a pass, passed on to Corban who broke free and ran it in for South’s first try. Market Harborough responded with another try but the South boys chins were up and they started fighting for it. Scrums pushed harder, the back line’s tackles got better and South were holding Harborough off. After a scrappy ruck South came away with the ball with a good pass to Corban, and South ran in for their and Corban’s second try. Harborough regrouped and with some good passing got their own back to bring the score up to 7-2. After a Harborough kick, South had the ball and made ground up the pitch. Passing down the line and back again Kyle broke free and made some good ground until he was tackled. South won the ruck and again the ball was passed around the line steadily gaining ground. The ball came back to Kyle who jumped it across the line for another South try.
A determined second half by South brought the game to a close with the final score 9-3 in favour of the home team.
As the second half was played so well by both teams, it was decided to have another 10 minutes play each way. South fought for the ball, tackles were on point (ish) and they managed to hold off Harborough for the first 10 minutes. Upon restart South went for it. Corban again got a good run and took the ball to Harborough’s 22 line. A ruck, won by South, took the ball out of play. Kian energised the scrum and South won the ball. Curtis passed to Joe who made some ground. He was then tackled but not before passing the ball onto Tai who ran it in for a South try. Final score 1-1.
