This Saturday is the start of the 2014 Wetherby Cricket League season. Once again our 1st team is competing in division 2, this year they must be one of the favourites to challenge for promotion and take the short trip to local rivals Church Fenton. Having shared the spoils with them last season once again we lock horns and hopefully will get off to a good start.

Fenton are in the middle of building a new pavilion at the moment so the ground is not looking it’s best. Those travelling please be warned that there will be the minimal of facilities and home comforts on offer, so wrap up warm.

The 2nd team start their campaign in Division 4 after clinching promotion last year. A tough season is predicted as there is quiet a step up in standard from division 5. They play host to Wetherby A first off and hopefully the blend of youthful enthusiasm and wise old heads will help them consolidate their position this year.

Both matches start at 1.30pm and at the moment the weather forecast is favourable, amazing for a bank holiday weekend and the start of the cricket season…….

Team captains are the same as last year with Paul Hebden captain of the 1st team with Adam ‘Elmer’ Gee his vice. The 2nd team sees the club Chairman, Dewi Thomas, as skipper with Jonathan ‘The Snail’ Barr as his vice captain.
