Lancashire –v- Middlesex at Southport, Friday 9 June 2017
S&B is delighted to announce that the Club will be hosting Lancashire’s Specsavers County Championship Division 1 match with 2016 Champions Middlesex, at Trafalgar Road, next June.
The match will take place over four days, beginning on Friday 9th June and is the second in the three-year staging agreement awarded to S&B earlier this year.
S&B has a proud history of hosting First Class cricket, dating back to 1959 and this will be Middlesex’s third visit to Trafalgar Road, having lost to Ken Grieves’ Lancashire side in 1963 but gaining their revenge, thanks in the main to Graham Barlow’s career-best first-class score of 177 in 1981.
This year’s game, which saw Lancashire just edged out by Durham on the final afternoon, drew record crowds and achieved widespread acclaim after the visitors, including current England star Ben Stokes, took on some of S&B’s junior cricketers at the end of the match. The wicket was also praised by former England ODI Captain, Paul Collingwood, live on Sky TV, as the best he had played on during the season.
