SBU 1 V South Notts 1

Blood, Sweat and complete exhaustion

Well put it this way I never want a repeat of what happened on Saturday March 31st. Having gone to sleep early ours of Saturday with 12 players secured on my team sheet to wake up in the morning and have two people inform me they can no longer play. Oh POO was going through my mind before setting off from Grantham. It was a frantic morning then trying to find some more players to help us out in what was going to be a tough battle of a game.

We turned up to the pitch with on 8 players to start, it was the most thriling of warm up (sat around in a dug out and then some quick passing on the 2 minute whistle) Off we trundled on to the pitch where Keats gave an inspiration team talk/ speach "Girls we have had a fantastic season and have worked extremely hard, now theres now easy way of putting this, but this is going to be a difficult game, please let the ball do the work. Lets Go!!" I think these true words of wisdom inspired a strong team performance which suprised all present at this game as SBU 1's came out fighting against 11 strong South Notts players and were able to actually have several shots on goal and keep the ball away from our defensive territory.

Soon 2 more of the cavalry arrived to make 10 players on the pitch wahoo temporary relief; And it was with these super stars that we took the lead from a shower corner. A fantastic ball to the top of the D from Bowlsy, Here Rachel took a touch and slipped it towards goal where Jane Bowles slotted it passed the keeper and BANG the ball hits the back board. It wasnt too long before that South Notts came out fighting and evened the score line out at 1-1 just before half time. By this point SBU had been joined by Sandie Taylor making her first team debut having been dragged away from gardening or some leisurely activity.

Second half saw much the same(However with the absence of Jodie Bellamy), with end to end play and both teams having opportunities to take the lead or 3 points, however neither team could convert their chances. A fantastic game with interesting events etc...

I would like to Thank all who came along to play, umpire or support us in our final game of the season. I think it was a fantastic decision to attend the game as we gained 1 point and proved our true fighting spirit as a united team. Well done Ladies x
