Southwell Brincliffe United

Southwell Brincliffe United

Notts uni 2 V SBU 1

by Nikita Hodgson

An unjustified game. The score does not reflect the way SBU presented themselves in the slightest.

This a game of much frustration and disappointment. Having not had the greatest of warm ups, SBU started the game half asleep. It soon became clear that the Uni who had many players of youth had not been out on the town the night before as we had anticipated. Sadly a couple of decisions did not go Southwell's way, particularly when a short corner was awarded for their player kicking the ball into Carol several times (Should have gone to specsavers, i quite appropriate. Despite the defence efforts to keep the ball out, shortly after the University went 1-0 up. Despite going 1-0 SBU remained high spirited and work extremely hard. The game was a sign of strength, skill and fitness and It appeared in the second half the University edged us slightly. Two more goals were conceeded in the second half, the first (of the 2) trickled passed carol on the far post, spinning all the way in to the corner and despite defensive efforts to stop it, the luck was definitely not on our side today. With 10 minutes to go SBU continue to work and battle hard and came close to scoring however the ball didnt want to go in. The third and final goal was a an interesting one, as the ball appeared to have been struck outside of the D and hit a defensive players stick inside deflecting the ball in to the goal, unfortunately neither umpire recognised the original striking of the ball was outside and awarded the goal making it 3-0. Emily Minton made a fantastic stop on the goal line preventing the score being 4-0. Well battled girls, 2 more games to go, lets make sure we acheive 6 points.
