How things can change so much within a week.
Having spent most of the week pulling hair out we finally manage to get 11 for our game. The warm up was a vast improvement on the prior week and mentally and physically prepared us for what was going to be a tough game. Our strategy was to mark their central midfielder Dan out of the game, and this tactic worked for the first half. The first half saw a strong team performance with fantastic marking, however the pressure on this game caused some of our distrubution and movement a little rusty in areas, midway through the first half, SBU were awarded a short corner which was converted by Helen Kirby. SBU went in to the first half leading 1-0 however fatigue was starting to kick in with the immense heat burning down on us. Second half it became apparent Manning had sussed our tactics and dropped Dan back in to back of the diamond and pushed 3 forwards up along with an attacking midfielder creating an overload on the counter attack putting the defence under immense pressure on occasion. However SBU found a break through as the ball was passed from back up to Maria Spurr who turned a player and delivered a fantastic through ball up the middle, where Jodie Bellamy managed to control and slotted it passed the keeper and into the bottom right hand corner of the goal making the score 2-0.
Well done ladies on another good win. 1 more to go lets make it a strong performance and 3 points.
