But from the start this was a very even match and was often end to end. It was not long before Priory had challenged the Southwell defence and it was only the superb keeping skills of Philipa which ensured Priory did not snatch an early goal or two. However Southwell soon began to find opportunities and before long were pressing forward and challenging Priory’s defence. Esther’s early shot on goal was a superb chance and she was denied only by the width of the cross bar. Once again with a substitute available Steve, had some flexibility to keep the team fresh and Priories attacked under control. It was fantastic to see Gabriella putting into practice what she had been practicing in training a week before, pushing the ball ahead and running onto it. Daisy and Selina worked well in defence and cleared and chased balls well. The efforts were rewarded when Esther and Amy worked well together to score the first goal. Ellie yet again proved she can play in any position and did well in both defence and attack as did Katie whose corner kicks are superb when timed right and the attack is there to meet them . A second goal by Esther sealed the victory and helped boost the girls’ confidence a little more.
