A small pitch contributed to a crowded midfield and consequently a messy first half. The Stars tried to push through but the Castle Donington defence was well organised. Thankfully, towards the end of the first half Hannah made a stunning run down the left wing , wove through the defence and tapped it home from close range. That seemed to open the floodgates, not least for Hannah herself who clearly had overdosed on shredded wheat this morning.

With Ellie, Anna B and Anna S running the ball forwards and making some well measured passes Beth and Hannah were able to attack at will. Hannah hit five more goals including one superb free kick into the top left hand corner. Beth scored a further two.

I was pleased with the way that the midfield tackled today - well done to Anna S, Hannah (and Beth) in particular for tackling back and taking some of the pressure off the defence.

Whilst the defence was not overly troubled throughout the match they deserve praise for being well organised and strong; despite the final score Castle Donington were not a push over and hit the wood work twice. Well done to Jessica and then Nancy in goal, and also in particular to Anna B and Lucy in defence.
