As we swing into 2012 Southwell St Marys face a crucial few months to ensure we have another successful season. To be truthful the new year did start with a certain amount of turmoil culminating in what can only be described as total farce last Saturday. Whilst 'those' two results were met with mirth in some quarters of the town the problem has been addressed (in Scottie's inimitable style).
Joe's resignation was a blow to the Ressies but inevitable given his work commitments (the only reason Tommy - a good match report but a little over dramatic). Joe is a real club man and we are grateful for the effort he put in and he is still an asset to the club.
Gav has stepped into the breach and we all know he will only pick players who are 100% committed not those who prioritise ale house football on a Sunday morning.
The thirds remain steady with Dodge at the helm and hopefully they can fulfil their potential for the rest of the season.
Despite Scottie describing last Saturday as "my worst result as a manager" the First Team are still in a strong position. There are 6 clubs there or thereabouts at the top but we can still achieve our target of 3 promotions in 3 seasons. The Notts Intermediate Cup quarter final against Wollaton now has an added edge as they are back in the hunt in the league whilst Hucknall Rolls Royce Leisure have games in hand that make them potential league challengers. All in all exciting times rather than doom and gloom. Four more sponsors hoardings are due to be delivered and the club is in a financially healthy position. My feeling is that come May we will be celebrating yet again.
