My favorite Performances from the season

A quick run down of my favorite games from a memorable season

Have I missed any out that you particularity enjoyed? Let me know!

10. Ladies 1sts 3-1 Chichester Centurions FRE (H) 25/4/14
More in here for sentiment than performance but this seemed like a game played in true social spirit at the end of the season which saw the end of club legend Vicky Renshaw playing days as Ladies 1sts keeper

9. Mens 2nds 5-1 vs Lewes 5ths LGE (H) 15/11/14
This was the game when the 2nds began to believe they could win the title, as they stuffed Lewes 5-1at home. Having had a slight wobble with a loss and a draw they had ripped apart both Brighton and Crawley and carried the form into this game to leapfrog Lewes and take top spot a position they only briefly relinquished over the remaining games. Mike Goatcher was MOM with a hat trick, Steve Case and Taf (who else) go the other goals. The game ended with we are top of the league chants ringing out across PACA

8. Mens 1sts 12-2 vs Crawley 2nds LGE (H) 8/11/14
On a surprisingly hot balmy day in November Southwick mens sides went goal crazy as they scored 27 between them! This huge win for the men's 1sts was bookended by the Mens's 3rds 9-2 win over Mid Sussex 4ths and the 2nds 6-0 win over Brighton. It was 3 great performances but the 1sts "3 man" destruction of Crawley gets the nod here just for the margin of victory James Bird, Antony McAlister and Nick Slater shared 4 goals a piece in a one sided affair that ensured bragging rights back at the Romans. It was also the biggest winning margin in the whole of Sussex League 1

7. Mens 1sts 5-0 South Saxons 2nds (H) PLATE SF 18/4/15
The mens 1sts get another entry as they won through a tough looking semi final with a comfortable 5-0 win to enter their 2nd plate final in a row. More on that later but this was a superb dominating performance over a side that finished above them in the league. Kiff and Slappy hit goals on their return Birdy got a double and an own goal finished the rout which included a clean sheet - a rarity at this level - from the defence

6. Ladies 1sts 10-0 Horsham 4ths (H) LGE 27/9/14
Fiona Youngman couldn't believe how well her first competitive game in charge went as the Ladies 1's hit an incredible 10 goals to open the season and go immediately top of their league. This was so one sided Vicky in goal implored her team to stop celebrating as she felt it was unfair on the opposition keeper! 7 scorers shared the goals, Katie Stripe, Fiona and Sarah Moss with 2 a piece. Emma Millington, Clare Jackson and Charlotte White (on her club return) also chipped in

5. Ladies 2nds 0-0*(2-0 pfs) Brighton 5ths (H) CUP 20/9/14
Taking a break from the goalfests it's worth noting this early season game before the season got away from the Ladies 2's in a fine battling display they made it through to a Cup Quarter final with a gutsy win over Brighton. Having kept Brighton out for 70 mins and then extra time Jess Harris became a shootout hero as she saved all 4 Brighton p flicks! Sophie Chandler and Jane Kerr converted from the spot for the ladies to ensure the win

4. Mens 3rds 4-3 South Saxons 4ths (A) LGE 21/3/15
The Saxons had the press with them and camera phones at the ready as they were celebrating their championship win they were facing our 3rds a team they had beaten 7-0 earlier in the season and protecting a 100% home record to boot. We traveled with no real expectations but produced our performance of the season taking an early lead falling behind before briefly leading 4-2 then doing enough to see the game out Aaron Melloy hit a hat trick including a calmly taken p flick and Richard Pethick also got on the scoresheet. Rob Scully put in a MOM performance though Lawrence Pethick in goal was also superb. A truly memorable win, though they got their revenge the week after as they beat us 8-1 at PACA!

3. Mens 2nds 5-4 Chichester Chipmunks (H) LGE 13/12/14
A game just before the xmas break and it was a vital one for the 2nds who faced a Chipmunks team pushing them hard for top spot. It really was a must win match with a tough set of away fixtures in January. The 2's could hardly have made a worse start finding themselves 2 down after 10 minutes however Chris Harris and Steve Case scored to leave it level at half time. It was then Wick's turn to pull away hitting 3 2nd half goals to race into a 5-2 lead Harris completing his hat trick before skipper Colin Stillwell made it 5. However the Chipmunks reacted well to this stunning turnaround with 2 late goals forcing the game to go to the wire. The 2nds hung on to stay top at xmas

2. Men's 1sts 2-3 Crowborough 1sts (N) PLATE F 26/14/15
Ok, ok so we didn't win it this year, and a final minute defeat is tough to take. So why have I added this in 2nd place, well it's great that we again made the final and despite the disappointment of the loss coming from 2-0 down in the 2nd half and again challenging for honors is were we want the club to be in the future. Jamie Bird and Nick Slater got on the scoresheet for the 1sts with Nick hitting the equaliser at a time when we seemed destined to lift the plate for a 2nd time in as many years. However late heartbreak followed

1. Mens 2nds 9-2 Horsham Hawks (A) LGE 18/4/15
Well it had to be really, though not just because I played in it! This stonking victory away in Horsham that ensured the title traveled to Southwick was ruthless and nerveless. A draw or loss would have left the 2's worrying on Worthing's result but as it was a devastating first half performance to leave us 6-0 up meant there was time for a couple of defensive lapses and yellow cards in the 2nd half as we lifted the league title with ease. Taf hit 5 goals, Chris Harris and Colin getting 2 each

Honourable mentions
