Southwold 68 – 0 Lowestoft & Yarmouth By Linda Cayley

Southwold entertained Lowestoft & Yarmouth on a glorious September afternoon on the common.

Close to 200 people were on the side lines watching the local derby, both sets of fans were expecting a hard set match, both teams having won the previous week
However that was not to be, Southwold scored within the first 3 minutes, and consequently dominated the remaining 80mins.

Southwold choose to run the ball on every occasion and were a threat every time they had the ball in hand. With winger James Barton going in for a hat-trick, fly half Ben Felton scoring two tries along with centre Will Debenham scoring a brace. All conversions were kicked by Ben Felton and new boy Sammy Harmor. The rest of the tries were scored by players throughout the team, including Matt Howles against his old side.

Every time Lowestoft & Yarmouth attacked the outstanding defensive work of all the Southwold players soon quashed the threat and fly half Ben Felton relieved the pressure as they kept Lowestoft & Yarmouth to nil.

The side has taken another step forward from a strong finish to last season under the new Southwold team of coaches Phil Anthony and Kevin Cayley. They look to be aiming to bring on youth and colts into senior rugby along with the quality players already within the squad. The fitness and attitude of the side has to be celebrated playing a brand of expansive and open rugby.

At the same time the 1stXV where entertaining on the Common The Jacks were beating Great Yarmouth & Broadlands RFC 26-0. For the icing own the cake our Colts just pipped Diss 19-17 on the Sunday.
