Following a bye in the first round, the U14s took on Nottingham Paviors on Sunday away at their ground to beat them 34-17. They started the game very strongly with some great rucking, strong running and excellent ball handling, going ahead 4 tries to nil by the end of the first half, scored by Tom Wand, Don Capes (2) and Fred Fitzpatrick, converting his own try.
Early in the second half, Spalding had relaxed and bit and Paviors scored their first try within a few minutes of the restart. Spalding came back almost immediately, with a try scored by Zak Franklin in the opposite corner.
Despite, Spalding's excellent defending on the line, Paviors broke the line to score two more tries and with one conversion but Donovan Capes put the game beyond Paviors reach with a final try close to the posts, (making his hat-trick), which was converted by Fred Fitzpatrick.
It was a real team performamce with all the lads contriibuting with some superb tackling, good running and strong defending on the line - which has taken them to the final against Newark, which will take place at Derby RFC on Sunday 3rd March. Well done to all the boys.
