From August we will be training every Thursday Evening from 7pm until 8pm at the New Ground, Drainbank North (just off A16), Spalding and either train or play every Sunday, from 10am until 11.30am New players are always welcome.
This season was more of a mixed season as we have been travelling further afield to find higher quality teams, including a tour weekend to an excellent tournament in Bournemouth at Easter and we ended the season on a high, winning our Group at the NLD Competition in Worksop.
We are continually looking to improve our skill set and fitness, and this season we are again travelling far and wide, to play against like-minded teams. We have already secured fixtures both home and away against the likes of Hull Ionians, Melton Mowbray and Market Harborough.
The U14's are coached by James Fitzpatrick, Kev Wand, Paul Wilkes and Andy Franklin, who between them have varying skills, and offer the boys all sorts of advice and experience from over 100 years of playing rugby (between them of course!).
James Fitzpatrick (Fitz) is Head Coach, an ex-back row, playing Semi Professional Rugby in the Midlands and had the honour of being Club Captain for Kenilworth, his local team. He played well over 350 games for them during the Nineties and Noughties, under the coaching influence of ex England Hooker Steve Brain.
Fitzy's goal is to ensure the kids are fit and get as much enjoyment out of rugby as he has got. He always tries to help the lads play with a smile, but with respect for the opposition and referee, these are core rugby values that all our coaches expect.
Kev Wand is an ex scrum half and full back, who played for, and Captained the Spalding first team during the Eighties and Nineties, and is a stalwart of Spalding Rugby Club, who has also played rugby in New Zealand learning a lot from his time there.
Paul Wilks has been coaching this group of lads for six years and knows them inside out, he is a great influence on the team and does a huge amount of work behind the scenes that goes unseen by many.
Andy Franklin enjoyed success in football and athletics representing Cambridgeshire at both. He has now seen the light and has taken up rugby coaching, having played full-back during his time at Loughborough University.
The lads all get on really well socialising outside of rugby, at events organised by parents. They come from different schools in the Spalding, Stamford, Bourne, Holbeach, and Peterborough areas - to name a few.
So, if you are going into Year 9 (or your son is) and would like to join our highly successful team for this oncoming season’s adventures then please drop an email to one of our coaches and you will be made more than welcome.
