The I’s were dotted and the T’s crossed at a meeting of the Board of Directors on Tuesday after which Marcus Ebdon was confirmed as the club’s new manager and club coach Danny Hussey, who worked alongside Ebdon as a caretaker manager following the recent resignation of Pat Rayment, is elevated to Assistant Manager.
During their short caretaker partnership Ebdon, who had been assistant manager since the start of the 2011/12 season, and Hussey, have guided the team to two convincing league victories and a narrow penalty shoot-out loss to higher league Matlock Town in the league knockout cup.
A vastly experienced former professional with Everton, Peterborough United, Chesterfield and Leyton Orient, Marcus also had a spell as manager at Alfreton Town. Of his new appointment he said he was delighted to be given the opportunity to take the managerial reigns at Spalding.
He added; “I look forward to the challenge of taking the club forward with Danny as my assistant. From our short time as caretaker managers we have made a good start with the team playing some good football as was shown at Leek Town on Saturday”.
After Tuesday’s meeting chairman Andy Gay said the club was delighted to have Marcus and Danny on board on a permanent basis as manager and assistant respectively. ”From the outset we wanted to appoint from within the club and Marcus and Danny were the obvious choices. We all look forward to working together as a complete team”.
