First Tulip Trophy Tournament Proves To Be A Huge Sun-Kissed Delight

3 months ago By Non-League Webmeister

Blue sky & soaring temperatures welcomed the entrants/spectators at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field over the Bank Holiday Weekend!...

The first ever Tulip Trophy Elite Youth Football Tournament for teams in age groups ranging from U7-U12, took place under sweltering, sun-kissed skies on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May.

The tournament, brainchild of Spalding United FC U21 Elite Development Squad manager Lewis Thorogood, who had run similar events over the past eight years during his tenure with Boston United FC, ran like clockwork with a host of plaudits being received from staff, players, parents and spectators as they filed out the gate at the end of the day - most admitting what a great time had been had and to pass on due kudos/congrats to the organisers/event-staff/caterers for laying on such an enjoyable and memorable day.

With events like this, participation and competition is the priority focus; although each age category featured a Knockout Stage comprising Quarter-Finals (subject to number of Group participants), Semi-Finals and Final after the round-robin set of Group fixtures, it's hoped every club/team/player walked away at the end of the day feeling like they'd contributed something very important to what proved to be a super weekend celebration of Youth football.

We'll return later in the week with more reports & results from the two-day footie extravaganza; we'll also have details of the Finalists in each category as well as a good sprinkling of photo-highlights on the website.

A bespoke Tulip Trophy website is also being created this week to enable parents/staff of the competing teams to view, purchase and download images of their team/player(s) - again we'll post news of that exciting development on the SUFC website and News section and assorted social media feeds of the club later this week!...

Signing off for now, well done to Lewis and his dedicated team for throwing such a great party and, most of all, THANK YOU to all those who supported the first of what we hope will be many, many more Tulip Trophy Elite Youth Football Tournaments to come in the years ahead!...
