FORMER Peterborough United and Cambridge United player Pat Rayment has been appointed as Spalding United’s new Manager.
Although not advertising the job following Andrew Stanhope’s departure in early December last year, the Tulips received quite a lot of applicants for the position, several of whom were short listed and subsequently interviewed this week.
“But Pat Rayment was the one who ticked the most boxes for us and matched our criteria”, said club Director Eddie Reeve.
Apart from Rayment’s appointment, the club’s management remains unchanged with Bob Don-Duncan and player coach Danny Hussey, who have been looking after the team in the interim period, remaining in situ. “We are delighted that Bob and Danny will remain with us. We very much appreciate what they have done over the past few weeks”, added Eddie Reeve.
On his appointment Rayment said: “Mine and the club’s objectives are as one. We are speaking on the same level. We both have the same objectives to move the club forward, looking at the long term strategy.
“As from now we are building for the future. For the remainder of this season we will be striving to improve our overall performance level and achieve better results. I’m fully up for the challenge”, he said.
In addition to playing professionally for Peterborough and Cambridge, Rayment also made 450 appearances for Corby Town where he was player manager, and also played for Stamford, Chelmsford City, Gorleston, Diss and Great Yarmouth. He is a former player coach of Kettering Town and manager of Deeping Rangers. Last but not least, he played under manager Alan Day in the Tulips’ 1998/99 UCL championship winning season.
Another appointment made by the Tulips this week was at Board Room level where Andrew Gay joined as a non-executive director.
Fancy that...I heard it was a done deal two months ago! Not the way I like to see a club run hence my discust at the sacking of Stanhope and appointment of a guy that will do the same job but cheaper. Also not my cup of tea as a manager.
Hi Pat - Welcome and many congratulations on your appointment.
Hi Andrew - Many congratulations to you as well.
