Tulips Fall At Home To Carlton Town

11 months ago By Non-League Webmeister

On a day all those in attendance were mindful to Remember, a below-par performance by the hosts was definitely one to forget...

Ahead of next weekend's Remembrance Day commemorations, lifelong Tulips' supporter and daughter of our late Vice-President Jack Goddard, Carol Hudson (pictured), patrolled the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field festooned with Royal British Legion poppy merchandise which was amply snaffled up by the assorted throng: great work Carol!

On what is always a moving occasion, the time-honoured minute's silence for all who've fallen in combat was duly & impeccably observed by both teams, match officials and all in attendance ahead of kick-off and then the match-action began.

One feared the Tulips, suffering the dual loss of potent strikeforce Gary King and Jamie Jackson (both due to suspension), might struggle to create chances in front of goal but debutant Ben Davison (signed from UCL Premier Division side Boston Town this week) and Tulips U21 striker Lewis Millington battled bravely throughout. Davison was hugely impressive and secured man-of-the-match honours for his all-round display and a second-half goal which gave the home side hope they might overturn Carlton Town's 2-0 lead, alas to no avail.

The 1-2 defeat - two set-piece goals either side of half-time being enough to give the visitors all three points - saw the Tulips slip to 9th place in the NPL Evo-Stik South standings. With a re-arranged trip to league leaders Basford United this coming Saturday 11th November, manager Chris Rawlinson will be looking for an improvement to a performance he later described in the press as 'bang average' and 'not good enough' as the Tulips look to cast off the Autumn cobwebs and get back to winning ways.

A full Match Report by Ray Tucker on Tulips v Carlton Town will follow at some stage on Sunday.

A minibus with limited seats available for fans wishing to travel to Basford will be departing the Sir Halley Stewart at 10.45am sharp next Saturday. Cost for travel will be £10 Return plus admission in Nottionghamshire - all interested parties are asked to reserve their seat via email:
