Having made his 250th appearance for the Tulips in Monday night's 2-0 victory at Peterborough Sports, veteran 'keeper (and, dare we say, club legend!) Michael Duggan handed the rubber gloves to U21 regular Alex Smith for tonight's NPL Evo-Stik South clash at Carlton Town.
248 more appearances for Alex (who made his full competitive debut for the Tulips in the Integro League Cup defeat to Gresley FC back in November 2017) and he too will be looking forward to receiving a similar commemorative artwork that's already been lined up for presentation to 'Duggy' ahead of the Tulips last home game of 2017/18, the key fixture versus visiting Leek Town (KO: 3.00pm at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field).
With no goals to relay details about, we'll await a run-through of the match-action, such as it might have been, from wily old Press Officer Ray Tucker at some stage on Thursday.
Suffice to note here that a clean sheet on your debut is the stuff these goalkeeper-types dream of, so doubtless young Smithy is already boring his car-pool chums senseless with tales of his derring-do whilst leafing through some Jermyn Street catalogue and picking out a colourful Paisley-motif cravat (or man-snood as I think they call them these days) to wear to the ground this coming Saturday!...
We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to our last home match this weekend: Tulips v Leek Town kicks-off at 3.00pm but our doors will be open from 12.30pm: absolutely everyone is welcome - please spread the word!
