Grange Social (formally Culcheth Sports) and Sporting Widnes don't seem to be able to get the better of each other in the league. The only time we have been able to beat them was in the Red Lion Cup semi-final last season. But it more than normally ends all square, Sundays game was no different.
Sporting seemingly on a downer from all their bad luck lately were 2-0 down and looking like there was no way back. However one of our new signings jay Hibbert grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck from right back and dragged us back in the game playing Gaz Kenny in to make it 2-1.
The fire was well and truely lit, we began to peg Grange back and found an equaliser when Swids right winger Peter Fielding was layed off superbly by skipper Liam Tilston for a right foot drive into the far corner. 2-2 the score.
There was a sting in the tale, the wind had been blowing strong and Kenny Martin was taking the goal kicks. Fortunately for Grange he kicked one so rubbish they got in an scored to make it 3-2.
Feeling unlucky we didnt quit, Dale Burrows close range attempt at an equaliser was spilled far post and new swids striker Chris Holman shot from close range but saw his effort handled on the line. The ref pointed to the spot and Skipper Liam Tilston used all his footballing nouse to create enough bobble/backspin for what he called his "12 yard screamer" to take it over the keeper gloves to make it 3-3 at full time.
