Gate are back home this weekend, read our preview of the game here...

With the league leaders out of the way, attention turns to the opposite end of the league when we welcome bottom of the league Abbey Hey to The Brian Addison Stadium.

Pre-Match Build Up
After two games against the league leaders, Andy Clarkson’s attention now turns to the bottom of the league. Abbey Hey are this week’s visitors to The Brian Addison Stadium as Gate look to get back to winning ways.

After a good session on Tuesday night, Andy Clarkson has a full squad to choose from with changes expected after Saturday’s performance. Joey Mullen will be touch and go as he looks to fully recover from a knock whilst an encouraging sign at training was Joe Booth taking part full the full session. Gary Pett is still making progress on his long term injury as Gate’s squad looks more and more competitive.

The Away Team
Abbey Hey come into this game sat bottom of the league with 14 points. Rob Byrne’s side have picked up four wins, two draws and have lost eighteen of their 24 league games.
The Gorton club have picked up their form since new manager Rob Byrne took over and have two wins from their last three. After seven straight losses, a 2-1 win away at Irlam stopped the rot for Byrne’s men who certainly has a job on his hands.

Their last game ended in a 1-0 win away at Silsden last Saturday. Oliver Walker scored his second goal in two games in the 69th minute to win the game. He’d scored against Charnock Richard the week before in a 2-1 loss from the penalty spot in the 87th minute.

Last Time We Met
Gate and Abbey Hey last met back in October where a 5-1 win took Gate to four games unbeaten.

Gate took the lead after just ten minutes when Ryan Riley burst into space and fired low past the keeper.

Gate doubled their lead through midfielder Dean Ing after 24 minutes. He arrived late in the box to head past the keeper from the edge of the six-yard box.

The homeside looked to get back into the game and hit Clarkson’s men on the counter. Luckily though defender Seydou Bamba, who is in great form, was in the right place to clear up.

Ric Seear looked to keep up his goal scoring return but was denied in the second half when he was flagged for offside.

Seear wasn’t denied a second time when he headed in at the back post on 66 minutes. Captain Joe Booth clipped the ball into the back post where Seear was waiting for a simple header.

The homeside grabbed a goal back in the 70th minute and looked better for it after changing formation after going 3-0 down. They hit Gate on the break and found Oliver Walker who finished superbly past Fletcher into the top corner.

Gate replied well and added a fourth goal, Ryan Riley scoring his second of the game. He got lucky after taking a touch too many, the keeper looked like he’d collected the ball only for Riley to come out the other side and slot the ball into the empty net.

The best though was saved till last when Dean Ing scored the pick of the goals. He pressed the homeside back line pinching the ball in the box and firing into the top corner in the 89th minute.
