REPORT: Barnoldswick Town 2-1 Squires Gate
Squires Gate suffered a second defeat of the season away at Barnoldswick Town on Tuesday night.
Manager Andy Clarkson was able to welcome back Ric Seear, Adam Sumner, Hyuga Tanner and Matty Kay into the side after Saturday’s loss in the FA Cup.
The homeside took the lead just a minute into the game. A missed header fell to Jack Coop who made no mistake to fire low past Ben Fletcher.
Ric Seear had Gate’s first chance of the game after five minutes looking for an equaliser but he fire dinto the side netting.
Barnoldswick doubled their lead after eight minutes. Ben Fletcher did well to save the original shot but he was beat to the ball by James Crocran who recovered quickly to head in.
Ryan Riley can forward for Gate, who started to grown into the game, on 12 minutes but he shot well over the bar.
Gate grabbed a goal back a minute later through Ric Seear. The striker returning from suspension was in the right place to head in Dan Gray’s cross.
Andy Clarkson’s men thought they had equalised on 24 minutes when Ben Reader headed in Adam Sumner’s corner. He was judged to have fouled the keeper in the process though.
Barnoldswick went close to adding a third when first a header at the back post was put wide before Ben Fletcher was equal to a stinging shot from Zac Dale.
HALF TIME: Barnoldswick 2-1 Squires Gate
Ric Seear came close to equalising for Gate just two minutes into the second half almost replicating his opening goal. He was found by Dan Gray in the box but his shot was saved for a corner.
Returning midfielder Hyuga Tanner showed great skill and awareness on the edge of the box ten minutes into the second half to thread the ball through to Ryan Charnley, but the midfielders shot was saved for a corner. The homeside clearing the corner and going up the other end to fire wide.
The homeside came close themselves when the left back almost scored the goal of the season. He volleyed from outside the box just wide.
Hyuga Tanner came close as the game came to a close as Gate continued to pile on the pressure. He fired in from outside the box but his shot cannoned off the crossbar.
Gate are next in action on Sunday afternoon when we travel to Worsbrough Bridge in the FA Vase.
