Its two out of three as the Stafford 7s squad heads up the league

Last Saturday saw the 3rd leg of the Staffordshire 7's Competition at Barton under Needwood, where 12 teams battled it out for the top prize. Stafford's 1st pool game was against Burntwood which saw the county town team running out winners by 21-0. Next up, a tough encounter against the home side, saw Stafford edging the game 12-5 against a tenacious Barton. The final group game saw Stafford run out worthy winners against Gnosall, 57-0.

The semi-finals saw Stafford drawn against neighbours Eccleshall and the Baden Hall outfit, fought hard in a tiring game! However, that little bit of extra experience and determination in defence saw Stafford battle their way through to the final off a 22-7 victory.

The final saw Newcastle and Stafford clash for the second consecutive competition. No quarter was given by either side. Stafford took an early lead but were pegged back by Newcastle. In a game that was won on superb defensive wok by Stafford, Newcastle just couldn't find a way through the tough tackling Castlefields boys. Stafford retook the lead in the second half and with the game in the balance, Newcastle scored just on the stroke of full time, their conversion attempt missed by a whisker, and Stafford took the spoils 14-12.

The 4th tournament of the series is at Cannock on 4th July, followed by the final leg at Stafford on 11th July where this competition will surely be decided. The team on day were:

Pete White, Rew Carter, Callum Jones, Nick Oxley, James Atkinson, Carl Williams, George Morrison, Matt Chalmers, Tim Woolman, Callum Heath, Dean Ainger, Jonny Carr, Mitch Averis, Stu Lewis, Will Sant, Rhys Williams.
