Saints show no New Year hangover.
Saints sting Wasps in opening ten minute blitz!
St. Albans banished their pre-Christmas disappointment of a narrow loss to the League leaders with an emphatic victory over Wasps FC at Boggymead on Saturday.
The game was effectively won within the first ten minutes as Saints raced into a 21-0 lead. The St. Albans back line produced textbook passing and handling as they scored three converted try’s that left Wasps struggling to keep pace and a foothold in the match.
The Saints three-quarter line lead by Harry Trude was in sparkling form, and as to the quicksilver running of George Elliott, Wasps had no response. The entire back line functioned as a unit with a further three try’s before the break, and only a solitary penalty kick as a reply from the visitors.
After half time Wasps did get back into the game as their capable pack began to assert itself over their youthful Saints counterparts. This produced a good supply of the ball which provided the visitors with an unconverted try.
Saints responded quickly and following good open play, Luke Tyson got his name on the score sheet with a well worked try converted by George Elliott.
Wasps were not done and looked again to their forwards to provide opportunity, this they did and were rewarded with another unconverted try.
St. Albans then closed the game out, a further try from the mobile Saints pack and an excellent final flourish which saw George Elliott complete his hat trick of try’s.
It was fine all-round team performance from St. Albans with many commendable individual displays, but as a group of players they showed they wanted to play for each other with a spirit that will serve them well as the season progresses.
Final Score: St. Albans 55 vs Wasps 13.
