Romans’ Sock Finding

Extra Laundry Spurs 1st Team On To First league Win

Romans 1st team players are hailing an unclaimed article of clothing as the new club mascot after their first league win of the season.

The sock, possibly one of a pair, was found in the kit bag before the teams excellent 4-1 victory.

Aaron Goaldice, Club Captain, said “When I first saw the sock I thought it looked a bit like the one Flo sticks down his shorts before games but someone pointed out it was way too big. Then I figured it wouldn’t do any harm to give it a little sniff for good luck before the kick off and when I banged in my second I thought there might be something in it. After the game it turned out nearly all the lads had a sniff or feel before kick-off and that’s the best we’ve played in while”.

Fellow goal scorer Maximus Federici claimed “I’m not one for superstition but fingers crossed there could be something in it. Er, I don’t mean the sock, well I do but I don’t mean there’s anything in the sock, You know, like a foot or something”

There was one sceptic in the camp. Club boffin, Professor C Ford announced “This is mumbo jumbo. At best there could be a placebo effect going on here but where is the control? I mean take me. I scored one, laid one on, started the move for another, had a hand in their goal, warmed up our keeper before the game, memorised 17 different corner kicks, explained several laws of the game to the officials and probably got man of the match but I didn’t go anywhere near the so called ‘wonder sock’ did I?”
The Professor is having shoulder surgery on Thursday and will miss the rest of the season.

Romans Deny Voodoo Rumours

“I can categorically state that there is no connection with the sudden appearance of the sock in question and the turnaround in form. If nobody claims it this Tuesday I will perform a ritual sacrifice with it and that will be the end of it” Prince Iwo Pele Bagboy 1st Team Manager.
