Returning Ricky nets Hat-Trick to secure Posh the win. Writes Stephen Breden
With just 95 seconds on the clock Ricky Miller was reminding the Stamford fans what he could do. He cut inside from the wing and let loose from around 25 yards and saw his strike loop over the keeper making it 1-0 to the visitors. Five minutes later Sam Preston blocked a shot from Craig Mackail-Smith. Two minutes later Peterborough doubled their lead as Morgan Penfold played a one-two with Ricky Miller before beating a number of Stamford defenders and then beat Dan Haystead from a tight angle.
Stamford almost had their first of the game a few minutes later but for a great save from Josh Tibbetts. Following a Jake Duffy corner that was flicked on by Elliot Sandy, Delroy Gordon had his shot saved. A minute later Jake Duffy crossed towards Rob Morgan who flicked the ball over. Two minutes later Mike Armstrong cut inside and shot but this was deflected and then well saved. Following this, Jake Duffy shot from range but this was easily saved. From the resulting corner Delroy Gordon headed well but again Tibbetts was equal to it. Two minutes later from another corner Rob Morgan shot wide.
Posh then moved quickly to get up the other end with Adil Nabi shooting from range but this was an easy save for Haystead in the Stamford goal. Two minutes later Morgan Penfold beat his man before laying the ball into the six-yard area to Matty Stevens who tapped in from close range. Three minutes later Adil Nabi beat three Stamford defenders before shooting but again Haystead easily saved. Two minutes later Sam Preston had a header saved by the Posh goalkeeper the rebound fell to Elliot Sandy who headed wide from close range. Just before the break Adil Nabi hit the post with a clever free-kick.
Two minutes after the break Sam Hollis broke and was in on goal but his shot was well saved. At the other end Peterborough had a fourth as Adil Nabi crossed a free-kick into the box and Matty Stevens headed in from close range. Five minutes after the break Stamford got their first of the game as Delroy Gordon headed in from a Jake Duffy corner. A minute later Stamford had a second as Sam Hollis played in Jake Duffy who had his shot well saved before Elliot Sandy bundled in the rebound.
With around 20 minutes to go Craig Mackail-Smith scored from close range at the back post. Five minutes later John King beat his man and shot, it was well saved but Elliot Sandy was again on hand to tap in the rebound. A minute later a long ball over the top saw Ricky Miller in on goal but Dan Haystead made a great save. Seven minutes from time Ricky Miller cut inside and curled in past Haystead. A minute later there was a very similar situation but this time Haystead saved easily. In stoppage time Ricky Miller completed his hat-trick as he outpaced Liam Marshall before slotting the ball into the back of the net.
