Daniels Defeat Stags
Superb Stamford performance earns victory against youthful Mansfield side. Writes Stephen Breden
Mansfield started the brighter with Jordan Slew cutting inside from the left wing, his shot was deflected and Dan Haystead saved with his legs. Six minutes later Slew was active again but similar to his earlier chance Haystead saved well.
Despite Mansfield starting the brighter side Stamford took the lead soon after as John King was tripped just outside the area. Jack Jeys stepped up to take the free-kick and he placed his free-kick into the top corner.
On the twentieth minute some nice play led to Joe Briers shooting from range, this shot took a deflection forcing a great save out of Bobby Olejnck. Two minutes later a great through ball led to Jack Jeys being in on goal he lobbed the onrushing Olejnck but his shot landed on the roof of the net. Two minutes later Mansfield were level as a long ball found Tyler Blake who turned his defender and shot past Haystead.
On the 32nd minute a deflected free kick was tipped wide by the Mansfield keeper. Stamford restored their lead two minutes later as Danny Draper switched the ball to John King, he cut inside before expertly curling a shot over Bobby Olejnck. Five minutes before the break Elliot Sandy received the ball out wide before cutting inside from the wing and shot but it was easily saved by the keeper.
Two minutes after the break Jordan Slew shot wide. Not long after this chance Ben George crossed to Elliot Sandy whose goal bound header was easily saved. Five minutes later Dan Haystead made an excellent save as Jordan Slew ran in on goal but his powerful shot was well saved low down. With 20 minutes to go Jordan Smith ran in on goal and rounded the onrushing Bobby Olejnck but from a tight angle could only shoot into the side netting.
A minute later Delroy Gordon headed a Jake Duffy cross goal bound but this was cleared off the line. Four minutes later a Jake Duffy free-kick was tipped over the bar by Olejnck. A minute later the ball was crossed to the back post where Elliot Sandy couldn’t get enough on the ball to put it on target. A few moments later Jordan Smith played the ball into Jake Duffy who took a touch and then curled the ball into the back of the net.
With ten minutes left to go Jordan Smith beat Brad McDonald, nut-megging, him in the process before shooting, this was saved by Bobby Olejnck and then he again saved from Elliot Sandy’s follow up. The last chance of the game came to the impressive Jake Duffy but his free-kick was easily saved.
