Stamford back to winning ways with a bang!
Stamford return to winning form in a comfortable 4-0 victory over Northwich. Writes Stephen Breden
The fourth minute saw the first chance of the game as Grant Ryan latched onto a long ball, controlled and volleyed towards goal but it smashed off the bar and back into play.
On the 16th minute Stamford took the lead as Elliot Sandy, covering whilst Courtney Meade’s replacement is found, slotted Jake Duffy in on goal and he finished well into the bottom corner.
26 minutes in and it was two as Sandy showed some great pace to get onto a long ball and he lobbed the ball over the onrushing keeper. On the 40th minute a Jake Duffy free kick was well saved. Just before the break a loose ball fell to Jamie Mcghee but his shot was deflected wide for a corner.
In the second half the game opened up with the home side having far more chances than they did in the first. First of all, five minutes in, Jamie Mcghee shot just wide.
From the resulting corner which was whipped in to an empty six yard box by Jake Duffy where an unmarked Delroy Gordon was waiting and he volleyed home. With the Daniels three nil up Rogan Mcgeorge was withdrawn to rest him with Curtis Hartley coming on pushing Jon Challinor into the midfield.
The 60th minute saw a golden opportunity as a Jamie Mcghee cross was controlled by Elliot Sandy, who beat the defender but the ball was nicked from him by Grant Ryan who shot wide from the edge of the six yard area. Five minutes later Grant Ryan crossed to Elliot Sandy who headed straight at the keeper.
A few minutes later Jamie Mcghee was replaced by Jack Oldham. On the 73rd minute Stamford had their fourth as Curtis Hartley crossed the ball into Grant Ryan whose header was into the ground and nestled into the bottom corner.
Following this goal Chris Hollist replaced Jon Challinor. On the 84th a Chris Hollist long shot was easily saved by the keeper.
A minute later Stamford has their final chance of the game as John King skilfully passed the last defender before having his shot well saved by the keeper, the ball then bounced to Grant Ryan who blazed over.
