Last game of the season ends in defeat to champions Shaw Lane. Writes Stephen Breden
Six minutes in Shaw Lane were showing their league winning quality as a cross from the left came to Gavin Allott but his header was a simple save. They continued to show superior attacking ability on the 14th minute this time hitting the post from an Alex Byrne curling shot. Two minutes later Byrne came close again this time from a free-kick which went just wide.
Two minutes later Stamford had their first chance of the game as Laurie Wilson floated in a cross to Jordan Smith who flicked down to Jon Challinor who shot straight at the keeper. Shaw Lane went one-nil up on the 21st minute as Gavin Allott was played in and, with Sam Donkin onrushing, used to outside of his foot to lift the ball into the back of the net.
Three minutes later Shaw Lane showed that it wasn’t just in the attacking areas that they had quality as their keeper, Jon Stewart, pulled off a great save from a superb header from John King. Ten minutes before the break Sam Donkin made a quality save of his own as he denied Jonathan Wafula as he ran in on goal.
Up the other end Liam Marshall’s long range effort was an easy save. A minute later Stamford had a header come off of the bar. On the 38th minute some poor defending led to Gavin Allott having an open goal but Sam Hill cleared off the line to prevent a goal. Just before the break John King ran down the wing before crossing to Jake Duffy who shot from the edge of the box but his shot was deflected wide.
At half time Mahmoud Juma was replaced by Jack Oldham. Three minutes after the break Stamford could have scored if someone had been at the back post following a great free-kick from Jake Duffy. Three minutes later Stamford continued their bright start to the half as Jon Challinor crossed to Delroy Gordon who headed over. With an hour on the clock Chris Hollist replace Liam Marshall. On the 64th minute Gavin Allott forced a great save out of Sam Donkin before Kieron Lugsden shot over.
Four minutes later Allott forced another good save out of Sam Donkin. Two minutes later John King was replaced by Rogan Mcgeorge. Five minutes later Oscar Radford shot from 25 yards, his free-kick going in off the crossbar.
Stamford had the ball in the back off the net from their own free-kick as Jake Duffy played in Laurie Wilson with a quick kick but he was offside. With seven minutes to go Jordan Smith was played in on goal and fired the ball into the back of the net. With one minute of normal time to go Gavin Allott made it three for the home side.
