Stamford and Sports draw
A penalty miss and a goal line clearance lead to bank holiday fixture ending with the points shared. Writes Stephen Breden
Thirteen minutes in and the home side had the lead as Sam Hollis latched on to a long ball before being pushed in the back, to the floor, leading to the referee pointing to the spot and Jordan Smith converted the penalty despite the keeper getting a hand to it.
Two minutes later John King played Andy Hall in on goal but his shot was saved.
Ten minutes later and a loose ball from a cross came to Sam Hollis but his acrobatic attempt went well wide. Five minutes later and the visitors were level with former played Joshua Moreman winning a header at the back post. Five minutes later and Jake Duffy found Sam Hollis with a free-kick but his header went wide. Two minutes later Rob Morgan ran at the Turbines defence before shooting wide.
Five minutes after the break Jake Duffy played a long ball over the top to Andy Hall but his shot was blocked. On the 57th minute John King was played in on goal but again the Sports defence blocked his shot. Up the other end Joshua Moreman cut inside but his shot was saved. On the 60th minute Andy Hall played Sam Hollis in but his cross found the keeper.
A minute later John King played Jordan Smith in on goal but his shot was miss-hit and was an easy save to the keeper.
On the 65th minute Sam Hill replaced John King. With twenty minutes to go Sam Hollis latched onto a long ball and shot past the keeper but his effort was cleared off the line. Four minutes later Jake Duffy had his free-kick blocked by the Sport’s defensive wall. Two minutes later Henry Eze rose above his man but his bullet header went wide.
On the 82nd minute Stuart Eason hit a long range shot for the visitors straight at Danny Haystead. Three minutes later Scott Sandy and Jon Challinor came on for Sam Hollis and Jake Duffy. After this change a loose ball from a corner came to Eliot Putman but his curling shot went just wide.
The final chance of the game came to the visitors when Danny Haystead was deemed to have fouled Joshua Moreman but Mark Jones, who stepped up to take the spot kick, scuffed it wide.
